I always loved writing in my diary.
It used to be pink, with a big lock. I didn’t want my mum and dad to find it and read it. It was the only place where I could dream about a life I didn’t have, write secrets of what happened in school and share some thoughts that I didn’t want to say out loud.
My grandma kept them all and I’m assuming also, opened them all.
I know I can trust her and she probably laughed reading how I wanted to have an hotel so badly with my sister and call it “hotel rose”, or that I didn’t want to go skiing because my dad didn’t want to have any breaks until lunch time.
I still do the same, almost every night, sometimes on my phone and sometimes on cute notebooks that I buy around.
Have you ever wondered how much dresses has impacted our everyday lives and personality? Talking with Alina I realized how I could associate myself with 3 brands, and believe me it wasn’t easy, and how these looks are representing different part of my life.
We are close to the end of the year so, as my own tradition, I’ll write a letter to the me of the past, present and future.

PAST - OUR LEGACY:

“Small Theories on How to Sit Gracefully”

Dear Cate,
Makes me so happy to see you rocking in those outfit.
When you were living in Milan, you thought you could rock everything, and you were probably right.
It has been quite a journey and sometimes I wonder if leaving Milan was the right choice. You loved your tiny apartment and if buying flower was a sport probably you’ll be already tripe gold metal.
Black was the color, the fashion color.
No color were allowed after the gate, sometimes a little light blue shirt in high summer, to bring the sunny vibes.
You experimented during those years and that is what I’m most proud of.
You learned how to be independent, the Italian law of the fashion sample sales and that you need to arrive 30 minutes late in the office, otherwise who is going to watch your morning runway walk?
Don’t forget to wear your sunglasses and never take the sun for granted, nearly-Danish citizen speaking.

PRESENT - JIL SANDER:

“The Gentle Practice of Overthinking”

Dear Cate,
And 2025 is nearly coming to an end, hallelujah I would add.
What a year it has been, even if it feels like 4 years merged together.
You have been all around, up and down, both emotionally,I would say,and geographically. With your Jil Sander ballerinas you’ve been walking and discovering places that you’ll remember forever.
Is it the year of midi skirt coming to an end? I think so.
You now have a collection, different colors and fabrics, but is now time to leave the suora look in the past.
If you are scared on my behalf, don’t be.
I’m sure I’ll be able to reinvent myself, without necessarily wear skinny jeans.
Overthinking, are we bringing that with us for next year? I wish not, but we don’t really have any choices.

Ho un sacco di domande per te, soprattutto se ora hai un armadio più grande — sai com’è, la vita è dura con quattro stand pieni e zero spazio rimasto.
 Mi sembri più sistemata, lo vedo: tanti tessuti svolazzanti e décolleté ai piedi.

Hai iniziato ad amare la burocrazia, ed è così che capisco davvero di star parlando con la versione adulta di me stessa.

Da quando la mia firma è diventata un’opera d’arte? Immagino sia questa la sensazione di essere una VIP.
